Innovate UK are currently funding a project with the following partners University of Bath, Zeroshift, and BSA.

The 12-month project is currently in Q3.
Zeroshift is the gear shift technology partner.
The University of Bath are providing technical support and simulation modelling.

IAAPS are the test facility and technical support.

The Project

The project is an attempt a improve the efficiency of EVs by introducing a novel 2-speed transmission. The introduction of the transmission will allow downsizing the e motor and batteries. The object of the project is to design, build and back-to-back test with a single speed EV to demonstrate that the overall build cost and weight of the vehicle will reduce with minimal or no adverse factors.

The chosen vehicle is yet to be determined. BSA are providing all other support and are therefore a major partner.

‘EVs need two speeds to gain efficiency, reduce motor and battery size, and reduce overall production cost. This project is very important, not just for motorcycles, but all future EVs.’

Tony Inchbald, MD Zeroshift
