Fuel Economy and Performance
It is sensible to consider fuel economy and performance simultaneously as they are directly linked.
Transmission types are ranked by fuel economy versus acceleration performance.
Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) equipped vehicles can have even better fuel economy than the manual transmission over a drive cycle. The biggest problem with current AMT's is torque interruption when shifting regardless of how quick the shift is made.
Zeroshift solves this completely with instantaneous shifts resulting in improved control of fuel consumption and emissions. It also offers the fastest way to change gear and hence accelerate a vehicle.
Zeroshift is able to out-perform all other transmission technologies in terms of fuel economy and performance.

Shift Quality & Safety
Shift quality is not just a case of shifting gear in a refined manner for the comfort of the vehicle’s occupants but ultimately for their safety. Any interruption of engine torque to the wheels introduces a loss of control. It is not wise to change gear with a torque interrupt while a vehicle is cornering as this could upset the vehicle’s stability and lead to loss of traction.
The automatic transmission, CVT and DCT all possess good shift quality, while the manual transmission and conventional AMT have poor shift quality that is, in some certain circumstances potentially unsafe. Torque interrupts at intersections, roundabouts and on motorway ramps can also cause accidents as the driver may need acceleration and find none. The same can occur when engine braking is expected but not forthcoming during emergency braking. Zeroshift removes torque interruption thereby making manual transmission and AMT safer.
Legislation is forcing OEMs to redesign vehicles to reduce road casualties. This requires more space in the frontal impact crumple zone. Any space that can be created by alternative technologies is advantageous in this quest. Bulky transmissions such as the automatic transmission and DCT clearly do not help in increasing crumple zones and subsequent road casualties. Zeroshift is both compact and lightweight. |
